“Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come…” – Ecclesiastes 12:1 (NIV)
Youth is often seen as a time of exploration, fun, and setting the foundation for the future. But the Bible encourages us to do something even greater—to serve the Lord while we are young.
Many people believe that faith is something to focus on later in life, after school, work, and responsibilities settle in. But the truth is, our youthful years are some of the most powerful years to live boldly for God. Here’s why:
1. Your Energy and Passion Can Be Used for God’s Glory
Right now, you have energy, creativity, and excitement that can make a difference in God’s Kingdom. Whether it’s through leading worship, sharing the gospel at school, volunteering in your community, or simply being an example of Christ’s love, your youthful passion can inspire others.
Example: David, as a young shepherd boy, didn’t wait until he was older to serve God. He defeated Goliath because he trusted in the Lord! (1 Samuel 17)
Ask Yourself: How can I use my gifts and energy to serve God today?
2. Building a Strong Foundation for the Future
The habits you form now will shape your future. If you prioritize God today, you’ll have a firm foundation when life gets tough. Many adults regret waiting too long to take their faith seriously. Don’t let distractions pull you away from God.
Example: Daniel and his friends chose to stand firm in their faith, even when they were young and taken into Babylon. Because they remained faithful, God honored and protected them. (Daniel 1)
Ask Yourself: What small habits can I start now that will help me stay close to God? (Daily Bible reading? Prayer? Attending youth group?)
3. The World Needs Young Leaders Who Love Jesus
There’s a lot of darkness in the world today—peer pressure, social media distractions, and struggles with identity. But God is calling young people like you to be a light! You don’t have to wait until you are older to make an impact. Your faith can inspire your friends and even your family.
Example: Jesus’ disciples were young when He called them to follow Him, and they changed the world with the gospel!
Ask Yourself: How can I stand out as a follower of Christ in my school, home, or community?
4. God Can Do More With Your “Yes” Than You Imagine
When you commit your youth to God, He will do more through you than you ever thought possible. He can open doors, guide your future, and use you to bring others to Christ.
Example: Mary, the mother of Jesus, was just a young girl when she said “Yes” to God’s plan. She became part of the greatest story in history!
Ask Yourself: Am I willing to say “yes” to God’s plan for my life?
